What are the drawbacks of vegetative propagation?

Posted on April 8, 2026 By B&D

Vegetative propagation continues planting from existing plants where no new genetic traits enter across growing cycles and the same plant type is repeated. It reuses plant material such as cuttings, roots, or buds from the same source where genetic makeup remains unchanged and no variation develops across successive plantings. It maintains identical traits over cycles where adaptability to new pests, diseases, or environmental changes remains limited due to the absence of genetic diversity.
